What are some of the symbols in the story?

Ans: There are many symbols in the story: Gillian, Hayden, Blind man, and the main symbol, money.

Are there any objects which seem to have a symbolic meaning? What are their meanings?


Ans: Money is a symbol. In the story, Gillian doesn't know how to use it. The money means a lot to everybody. Just like in the story, his uncle want Gillian to know the meaning of the money, so he comes up with the $50,000 so that he will learn how to use it.

Do any people act as symbols in the story? What do they represent?

Ans: Gillian represent the people who waste a lot of money. Hayden represent nothing, because she doesn't talk or show the feeling in the story.

Do aspects of the story’s setting seem symbolic? In what way?


Ans: Yes, in the story, characters and things are seem to be symbolic.

Is one symbol used throughout the story or do the symbols change?


Ans: Yes, one main symbol is used throughout the story which is money, the symbol does not change but the one who use the symbol change it. (Gillian)

What is the author’s attitude towards actions or events?

Ans: The author attitude towards the actions is from the Gillian. Gillian has been a spendthrift boy. Before, he spend a lot of money, so I think that the author want us to learn from what Gillian did.

Ans: I think the story is tragic. I think that the author want us to feel confuse when the story had twist and change.

What is the author’s attitude toward characters or the narrator? Does the author like or dislike, trust or mistrust the characters or the narrator

Ans: I think that the attitude of the author, showing compassion to the character. He did not like or dislike the character, but he also didn't support the idea of the character.
